Get an email when your spreadsheet needs you
Alerts for Sheets emails you when cells in a Google Sheet start matching a condition: stock falls to its reorder level, a status turns "Urgent", a total passes a budget, or a form response arrives with a certain answer. It works on free Gmail accounts, not just paid Workspace plans.
What you can watch
- Numbers: greater than, less than, equal to, or compared row by row with another column (stock ≤ reorder level).
- Text: equals, is not, contains ("Urgent", "Done", "Refund").
- Blanks: a cell becomes empty or gets filled in.
- Any change to a range you care about.
Alerts fire once when a cell starts matching, not on every edit, and re-arm when it stops matching. Edits by any collaborator and new Google Form responses are checked.
Get started
- Install Alerts for Sheets from the Google Workspace Marketplace.
- Open Extensions → Alerts for Sheets → Load example to see a ready-made inventory sheet with two alerts, or Open Alerts to add your own.
- For each rule, select the cells to watch, pick a condition and enter a value (a number, text, or cells to compare against).
- Press Save & turn on. Use Send test email to check delivery.
Good to know. Alerts are emailed from your own Google account, which Google limits to about 100 emails a day on free accounts; each check sends at most one email listing every new alert. Values that change without an edit (for example GOOGLEFINANCE prices) are checked the next time the sheet is edited.
